On Golden Pond opens June 12 at the Bringhurst Park Theatre, just in time for Father’s Day. Tickets go on sale June 2. Discounted season tickets for this and the remaining two productions in City Park Players’ 60th Anniversary Season remain available.
The third offering of the theatre’s 2008 season, the1979 Broadway Drama Guild Best Play was written by Ernest Thompson and is directed by noted Central Louisiana actor/director Frith Harwood. City Park Players board member Piper Wilson is Executive Producer and the production features a local cast and crew of stage veterans and newcomers.
On Golden Pond is the warmhearted story of grumpy, retired New England professor Norman Thayer, Jr., and his spirited wife, Ethel, spending one final summer at their lakeside cottage in Maine. Generations collide and sparks fly when the Thayer’s middle-age daughter and her fiancĂ© leave his teenage son with the Thayers, while they embark on a European vacation. Katharine Hepburn, Henry Fonda, and Jane Fonda starred in the Academy Award-nominated 1981 film based on this triumph of life, love, and family.
In celebration of their 60th Anniversary Season, the theater will unveil a frameable art poster commissioned especially for the production and designed with artwork by artist Glenda Kennison-Smith, owner of the Gallery House art gallery in Alexandria. Available in limited edition, the posters will be for sale through the run of the show.
On Golden Pond opens Thursday, June 12 and runs through June 22, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 7:30 with Sunday matinees at 2:30. All performances will be held at the Bringhurst Park Theatre, 1802 Sylvester Street, Alexandria, Louisiana. Individual tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (65 and older), and $5 for students with current ID. Group sales are also available.
