Grandmothers, Incorporated – Four of the most unlikely female detectives you’ll ever see on a stage.  They are all widows whose adventures in the world of crime will make you laugh until you get all teary eyed.  They may be only figments of the imaginations of creators, Lily Barnett Evans and Crystal V. Rhodes, but they are brought to life under the direction of Theresa Louviere and Ruth Weinzettle.

Featuring Paula Miles, Rodessa Metoyer, Ann Angelle and Jamilla Bynog-Barnes –Grandmothers, Incorporated, The Play – is presented as the last production of the City Park Players 2012 Season.  You will not want to miss this rollicking adventure as the Grandmothers take on a criminal, portrayed by Numa Metoyer, while on a getaway vacation to an isolated cabin.

About the Cast of Grandmothers, Incorporated

Jamilla Bynog-Barnes  -- Bea Bell   -- Appearing for the first time on the CPP stage Jamilla Bynog is a native Alexandrian. She received her Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law Center and is now an Assistant District Attorney for the Parish of Rapides. She currently serves as President for the Krewe of RA and is an active board member for the Rapides Children’s Advocacy Center. She enjoys spending time with her family and traveling abroad with her husband, Cooper.

Paula Ellis Miles  --  Hattie Collier  -- A native of Alexandria, Paula attended both ASH and Peabody. A graduate of Xavier University she then earned a Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School. Now working as an Assistant Attorney General with the LA Department of Justice and happily married to Russell Miles, III, Paula is the proud parent of Jessica and Joshua. This is her acting debut as a City Park Player.

Ann Angelle -- Connie Palmer  -- A native of Carencro, Ann moved to Pineville about a year ago from Lafayette where she had been very active in community theatres in the area. She has 2 children, Aharon and Kortney, who are very supportive of her love of theatre. This is Ann’s first stage appearance in Central Louisiana but she looks forward to a future that includes City Park Players.

Rodessa Metoyer -- Ms. Fanny Collier  -- Rodessa is retired band director and a former member of the Rapides Parish School Board. She is an active musician with Central LA Arts & Health Care, she sings with Red River Chorale, and she is organist and cantor for St. James Catholic Church. She was a Sophisticated Lady and played clarinet in the CPP production of Ain’t Misbehavin’ in 2011 and was Juror # 9 earlier this year in Twelve Angry Jurors.

Chevron Harris, Fanny Collier, Hattie Collier, Bea Bell, Connie Palmer

Numa V. Metoyer,III -- Chevron Harris  -- Numa is an Assistant District Attorney with the Rapides D.A.’s Office where he runs a special victims unit for domestic violence. He also serves as City Attorney and Magistrate Judge for the Town of Colfax, as well as the City Prosecutor for the Town of Cheneyville. A graduate of Southern University Law School, he has served as a Board Member for Family Counseling Agency and Turning Point Battered Woman Shelter. He’s also a first time actor for CPP.


Bob Savage -- News Announcer (Voice-Over)
A relative newcomer to the stage, Bob worked backstage with CPP in 2011 and had roles in Spectral Sisters 10 Minute Play Festival and with Marksville’s Fox – Le Theater Les Bon Temps productions. Earlier this year he was Phil in Almost, Maine. As a “voice” in this play, Bob has stepped up his game by designing the lights as well as operating both light and sound.

2012 Summer Musical

City Park Players is pleased to present the 2012 season summer musical Forever Plaid. Written by Stuart Ross, with musical arrangements by James Raitt, this deliciously goofy revue centers on four young, eager male singers killed in a car crash in 1964 on the way to their first big concert, and now miraculously revived for the posthumous chance to fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was.  


Directed by Tina Smith, the cast features Ty Cedars, Shannon McManus, Cade Cascio, and Aaron McConnell.   Songs in the show include "3 Coins in the Fountain"  "Cry"  "16 Tons"  "Moments to Remember" " Scotland the Brave"  "Lady of Spain" "Shan Gri La" "Love is a Many Splendored Thing"  and "Catch a Falling Star" as well as many other that you will fondly remember.  Performances will begin on July 5 and continue through July 15, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 pm and on Sundays at 2:30 in the afternoon.

Auditions for Forever Plaid Scheduled

Auditions on May 22 (Tuesday) at 6pm at the St.James Episcopal Church Hall
for young male singers who want to be The Plaids - a boy band that makes a miraculous comeback after a tragic accident cut their career short. They sing songs like "3 coins in the Fountain", "Cry" , "No, Not Much" , "Catch a Falling Star", "16 Tons" and other great songs from the late 50s early 60s.

On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend "almost" in this delightful midwinter night's dream.  Directed by Diane Falcone – Almost, Maine is a play intertwining 9 separate stories that occur at precisely the same moment. The cast includes Candice Carr, Tillie Falcone, Jeff Goelz, Joshua Goodnight, Melissa Savage, Bob Savage, Carey Thompson, Dann Eudy, Jr. and Jim Weinzettle.

Viewers Choice Awards & Auditions

City Park Players announced the Viewers Choice Award nominees for its 2008 season, including Steel Magnolias, The Old Settler, On Golden Pond, The Boyfriend, and The Dinner Party. Season ticket holders, actors, and crew members submit their choices via ballots for Best Performance by a Male Actor, Best Performance by a Female Actor, Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Performance by a Male Newcomer, Best Performance by a Female Newcomer, Best Director, Best Set, and Best Show. 

Winners will be announced and receive their awards at a reception on Sunday, March 29 at 2:00 pm, at the Hearn Stage/Kress Theatre. Cast and crew members associated with the 2008 season are invited along with one guest each for no charge, however please make a reservation.  Tickets for everyone else are $10 and must be reserved in advance at 442-1800.  The public is invited.

City Park Players also announces auditions for the second production of our 2009 season, the comedy Social Security by Andrew Berman, Monday and Tuesday, March 30 and 31 at 6:30 pm. Three male roles and three female roles, all ages 35–70-plus, are available. Social Security is a hilarious commentary on family relations and caring gracefully for aging parents. Director Frith Harwood will conduct the auditions at the Hearn Stage/Kress Theatre, Fourth & Johnston Streets, downtown Alexandria. Performances are June 4–14.

The Boy Friend Opens August 7

The Boy Friend, a hilarious musical romantic comedy by Sandy Wilson, opens at the Bringhurst Park Theatre on August 7.

Featuring a local cast of 30 mostly teens and young adults, The Boy Friend is the fourth offering of the City Park Players 60th Anniversary Season and the perfect cap on a sizzling summer. Cenla musical theatre veteran Tina Smith directs the production. Diane Falcone is Executive Producer.

In this gleeful song and dance show, British playwright Wilson masterfully spoofs the contrived storylines, generous tongue-in-cheek humor, and happy-ever-after endings of classic 1920s-era musical comedies. As a newcomer to the American stage, a nineteen-year-old Julie Andrews starred in the show’s 1954 Broadway debut. Her performance earned her the Theatre World Award and led to her Tony Award-winning role as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady.

Continuing its 60th Anniversary Season celebration, the theater will unveil a limited edition, frameable poster, commissioned especially for the production and designed with original artwork by artist Marcus James White. White is a rising senior at Pineville High School Center for Creative & Performing Arts and member of the show’s cast.

The Boy Friend opens Thursday, August 7 and runs through Sunday, August 17. Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm, with Sunday matinees at 2:30. All performances are at the Bringhurst Park Theatre, 1802 Sylvester Street, Alexandria, Louisiana. Individual tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (65 and older), and $5 for students with current student ID. Group sales are available.
